Tribute by Edith Powney at the Funeral held in Mayenne, Normandie, France.
It was about this time last year that I first met Sue. I knew her as a hairdresser who loved her work and loved working with people. Sue was very skilful, highly organised and always cheerful. We all remember her as being full of life, warm hearted and very hard-working.
In December she was so much looking forward to the time that she and Keith were going to spend with Kirsty and family in England. She came back full of memories of her little grandchildren, Myles and Grace.
As the illness began to take hold in February, Sue showed her love for her family by being very strong and wanting to shield them and protect them from the thought that she might not have long to live.
Sue was a wonderful wife to Keith and a wonderful mother to Kirsty and Chelsea. Her heart was in her family and in making a happy home life. She was a perfectionist who always made the house beautiful. She was a home-maker and Kirsty and Chelsea talk about the great family life they had and the lovely family holidays they enjoyed together. She always wanted the best for them and that same desire was there for her grandchildren.
Sue longed to live on to be with them but near the end when she knew this was not to be,
she said she was just thankful for the time she had been given to spend with her grandchildren, Myles and Grace. She was thankful she had been blessed with a loving husband, devoted daughters, beautiful grandchildren and all the close members of her wider family together with the friends she had made on both sides of the Channel.
